YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT TO US!
To ensure your safety, we carry out our windscreen repair and crack repairs to WOF standard. (LTSA RULE 32012/2)
Our repairs also comply with AS/NZS 2366 Parts 1 & 2
Similarly, windscreen repairs must be done by a trained technician using only approved equipment.
Be wary of repairers who cannot give you a certificate of compliance for the above.
How to Identify if a Broken Windscreen Can Be Legally Repaired.
When a windscreen suffers damage, it will need to be repaired or even replaced in order to obtain a new WOF ( Warrant of Fitness).
Because modern windscreens are laminated, the don’t explode like windscreens in older vehicles. Almost every vehicle produced after 1986 will have a laminated front windscreen.
Consequently, when a modern windscreen suffers damage, in many cases that damage can be repaired. In contrast to older windscreens which simply explode, and require replacement.
As a result, more windscreens are repaired rather than being replaced now.
Below is the chart used to access windscreen damage:

How To Use The Windscreen Repair Chart
Because Windscreen repair is subject to NZ Standards, it is assessed by your Warrant of Fitness inspector using this same chart. Likewise, if a Windscreen repair is needed the following steps are then taken.
- Firstly using the chart above we determine what type of break on the windscreen exists. Is it a “Star” type break, a “bullseye”, a “Horseshoe”, a “crack”, or a “combination”?
- Second, we determine if the needed windscreen repair is in the critical vision area (C.V.A) of the windscreen. (Top chart)
- Finally once we know the break type, and know if it is in the CVA, we can then use the chart to find out what the maximum permissible size is for that windscreen repair. I.e if it is Star type break, outside the critical vision area, we can repair damage up to 30mm
Above all, the whole point is safety of the vehicle occupant, and other road users.
